What is Search Engine Website Index

In order that a site will appear in a SERP, a search engine should index pages of your site. A website that should be indexed will have been observed and tested by a search engine robot with relevant information about the site is stored in the database of the search engine. If the page is already in the search engine index, it will be shown in the search engine results page. Else, the search engine cannot be aware of the page and the information from the page cannot be displayed . As rule search engines index correctly most average size sites (few hundreds pages or less). However, the following points are important for your site building and optimisation.

The followin simple steps should enable a search engine to learn more about a new website:

If it is available submit the web address of your site (preferably manually) using the search engine site submission form. By this way you just informs the search engine about the new site was appear and the search engine puts its address into the special queue for indexing. You no need to add each page of your site, but only the address of the home page should be submitted, the search engine's robot will explore the rest of pages of the site by concern the following links. The second and most preferable way for the site indexing is to get to the search engine's robot to find your site on its own. If exists at least one inbound link to your website from other indexed sites, the search robot will visit and inspect your site soon. Put few inbound links to your resource and simple wait until the search robot visits and indexes it. Paradoxically this way may be essentially faster than manually submission of the site. Depending on the search engine a site indexing in average takes from a few days to few weeks. The most fast process of the site indexing have Google and Yahoo search engines.
Independently of the indexing way you chosen for your website try to make your site friendly and easy understandable to search engine robots. In order to achive this follow to these simple rules: Design your site structure in the way that any page on your site will be reachable from the home page in not more than two-three mouse clicks. If the topology of your web resource does not permit you to do this, generate a site map of your site that will allow to reach any page of your site by this "two-three clicks" rule.

Avoid the frequent mistakes. Session identifiers int page name order to more difficult indexing. Avoid to use script navigation. If you use it, try to duplicate the links from the navigation with regular links due to search engines unable to read scripts. Most search engines index only first 100 KB of information on any page. Therefore, if you want that all pages of your site will be entirely indexed, do not create pages contained more than 100 KB of text. In order to direct the manner of acting of search robots use the file robots.txt. This file explicitly allow or deny to the search robots to index your website pages.

The search engines databases are periodically being updated; they records may be changed, disappeared or reappeared. Due to this reason the number of your website indexed pages may occasionally be vary. The server where your site is hosted sometimes may be unavailable. This is the most frequent case for disappearing of the page from indexes. If the search robot could not access your website at the time it was trying to index the website later. The website will reappear in the index when the server will be restarted.

The large number of inbound links to your website will enlarge the quickness of your web resource reindexing. You can track the process of indexing your site by analyzing server log files where all visits of search robots are logged.
